wav file to boost the level, but that will diminish the dynamics, so I'm just wondering if I'm setting something wrong, or if this is a normal part of the mixdown process and compression is the way to go (and if this is the case, how do I retain as much of the dynamics as possible?) I know that when mastering I can use compression on the. I'm pretty sure 44,100 is the right setting (if I do 48,000, the electric guitar gets wiped out).

If my Windows sound level is at 25 when I'm working on the project in Mixcraft, I have to jack it up to 32 when listening to the wav file, which is much higher than I typically set it (any other song would be way too loud at that point).
